Background
Peace Canal is implementing the second phase of the United Nations Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Reconciliation, Stabilization and Resilience in South Sudan RSRTF-funded Kong Koc peacebuilding project covering Greater Tonj and Northern Lakes. The project focuses on restoring norms of restraint through peace dialogues, reconciliation processes, strengthening justice and rule of law, delivering peace dividends, and promoting skills development to foster diversified livelihoods. Following successful progress in the initial phase, Phase Two of the Kong Koc ABP (2025–2028) will expand its geographical coverage to include Northern Lakes State—specifically Rumbek North and Cueibet Counties.
Job purpose
The Peacebuilding Project Officer will play a key role in implementing field-level activities in Cueibet County. S/he will facilitate community peace dialogues, support local peace structures, and coordinate activities that foster trust, inclusion, and resilience among target communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize and facilitate peace and reconciliation dialogues with community leaders, youth, and women’s groups.
- Support the establishment and functionality of local peace committees and early warning systems.
- Coordinate and oversee the implementation of cultural and social cohesion events.
- Monitor field activities, collect reports from communities, and contribute to project documentation.
- Liaise with government authorities, civil society partners, and other stakeholders in Cueibet.
- Ensure inclusive participation and uphold conflict sensitivity and do-no-harm principles in all activities.
- Provide timely field updates and contribute to periodic project reports.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Peacebuilding, Conflict Resolution, Social Sciences, or related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in implementing community-based peacebuilding or development programs.
- Strong facilitation, mediation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience working with traditional leaders, youth, women, and local government structures.
- Fluency in English and the local language(s) spoken in Cueibet and surrounding areas.
- Strong understanding of conflict dynamics in Lakes State.
