Background
Peace Canal is implementing the second phase of the United Nations Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Reconciliation, Stabilization and Resilience in South Sudan RSRTF-funded Kong Koc peacebuilding project covering Greater Tonj and Northern Lakes. The project focuses on restoring norms of restraint through peace dialogues, reconciliation processes, strengthening justice and rule of law, delivering peace dividends, and promoting skills development to foster diversified livelihoods. Following successful progress in the initial phase, Phase Two of the Kong Koc ABP (2025–2028) will expand its geographical coverage to include Northern Lakes State—specifically Rumbek North and Cueibet Counties.
Job purpose
The MEAL Officer will lead the implementation of all monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning activities under the Kong Koc Phase Two project and other programmes implemented by Peace Canal in different locations. She/he will support evidence-based decision-making, ensure learning informs programming, and promote accountability to affected communities across all intervention areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive MEAL plan in line with Peace Canal and RSRTF standards.
- Conduct routine monitoring and data collection in Greater Tonj and Northern Lakes.
- Support project teams in the collection and analysis of data related to indicators, outcomes, and lessons learned.
- Facilitate baseline and endline assessments, and contribute to impact evaluations and learning reports.
- Lead the roll-out of feedback and complaint mechanisms within target communities.
- Ensure proper data storage, analysis, and reporting using tools like KoboToolbox, Excel, and SPSS.
- Build capacity of project staff and community actors in basic MEAL skills and participatory monitoring.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Monitoring & Evaluation, Development Studies, Statistics, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in MEAL roles within peacebuilding, development, or humanitarian projects.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills; experience with digital data collection tools is required.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
- Knowledge of the cultural and conflict context of Tonj and Lakes regions is an advantage.
- Fluency in English and local languages.
